An Attempt At Relevance

So it’s been about 6 months now that I have been writing my own songs and I’ve found myself noticing the lyrics in other’s songs more and more. In the past, I’ve always listened to the music first and then I catch up on the specific lyrics and meaning of the song later. Now, not so much. As I’ve attempted to become an amateur songwriter I’ve learned why I could never attempt to do it professionally (besides the obvious lack of talent and ability to play a musical instrument much less sing). I know I couldn’t make it because frankly I’m not a clever enough songwriter. In my new found interest in lyrics, I constantly find myself saying “Well that was clever..” and filing away yet another line that expresses something I could never do so clearly or in as interesting a manner.
