Reading List March 2, 2009Posted by mattroper in Miscellaneous.
Every year for Christmas, my family gives each other Barnes & Noble gift cards. It’s a great gift but the best part of it is that we have “Barnes & Noble Day” where the family goes together to spend our gift cards and enjoy each other’s company. This year I spent an inordinate amount of money on books (twice the actual value of my gift cards) on a wide variety of topics and genres. I’ve been doing quite well with one of my New Year’s Resolutions to read more and if you click through I’ll give a quick breakdown of what I have read and what’s next on the list. (more…)

And we’re back…..
It’s been a couple of months since my last post and quite a bit longer since my last post of any substance. But I have thought about the blog and what I want it to be and I figure since I started blogging last Lent what better time than now to get back into the habit. Click through to read about the blog, random goings on and what I’ll be giving up this Lenten season. (more…)

Texas announced today that Will Muschamp will become the head coach at the University of Texas once Mack Brown retires. I love this decision and I’m impressed they got it done during this season. Mack has 8 years left on his contract but I would not be shocked if he leaves early (especially with another championship under his belt). Great move, great timing and the Texas football program has a great future ahead of it.
Speechless… November 14, 2008Posted by mattroper in Goofy Video.
There are no words to describe this video.
What just happened? And why was that acoustic guitar music so soothing?

3 Kidneys: Looking back and moving forward… September 10, 2008Posted by mattroper in Miscellaneous.
Tags: goals, introspection, Kidney Day, rambling on and on
Seven years. This September 11th marks the seventh year since I had my kidney transplant. I don’t talk about it all that much which surprises some people. It was obviously an important event in my life and still shapes a lot of the decisions I make but I like to think that I’m not any different because of it (minus the 15 pills I take a day). But since I have been much more introspective over the past 3 or so months (hmmm, coincidence that started right about my 24th birthday?), I ‘ll open up a little bit about the transplant and ensuing months of recovery and probably hit a few other topics. Well that was clever… August 13, 2008Posted by mattroper in Songwriting.

So it’s been about 6 months now that I have been writing my own songs and I’ve found myself noticing the lyrics in other’s songs more and more. In the past, I’ve always listened to the music first and then I catch up on the specific lyrics and meaning of the song later. Now, not so much. As I’ve attempted to become an amateur songwriter I’ve learned why I could never attempt to do it professionally (besides the obvious lack of talent and ability to play a musical instrument much less sing). I know I couldn’t make it because frankly I’m not a clever enough songwriter. In my new found interest in lyrics, I constantly find myself saying “Well that was clever..” and filing away yet another line that expresses something I could never do so clearly or in as interesting a manner. So, I’ve compiled a short list of some of my favorite lines for anyone that feels inclined to click through… (more…)
Where have all the bloggers gone? July 10, 2008Posted by mattroper in Miscellaneous.
Tags: blogging, fun post, paula cole reference in post title, taking cheap shots at friends while I'm out of town
Recently, I have noticed a drastic decline in posting from some of the folks (like myself) that were blogging so consistently earlier this year. I am probably guiltier than the rest considering that I committed to daily blogging during lent and have since dropped off the edge of the blogging world. If you click through, I’ll be dispensing my fun theories on why everyone has stopped blogging and follow that with a personal commitment to my blogging future. (more…)
New Song – Tell Me A Lie July 2, 2008Posted by mattroper in Songwriting.
Tags: bad rhythm, new song, Tell Me A Lie
This is my 3rd original song. It’s called Tell Me A Lie. This recording is not the greatest version of this song because my rhythm is terrible and you actually have to look at me while I attempt to sing. But I wanted to make sure I got it out there for everyone to listen to since I think this shows some quality progress with my lyrical ability. I may record this again and if I do I’ll update this post with the latest version. So if you click through, enjoy the song… (more…)
